Mr. Carl “Pappy” Gilbert, age 84, of Smyrna Rd, Young
Harris, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011, at his home. Carl was
born June 11, 1927 in Union County son of the late Marion and Ada Griggs
Gilbert. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rebekah Gilbert in
1946 and his wife, Althea Gilbert in 2007 and a sister, Minnie Phillips
in 2008. His joy was his children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren. He had logged all over 3 states. Carl was a member of
Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Cecil Gilbert, Bill Gilbert, Eddie
Gilbert and Steve and Jennifer Gilbert, brother and sister-in-law,
Willard and Charlene Gilbert, sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and
Dexter Dockery, grandson, Jim Gilbert, granddaughter, Amanda Stroud,
granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Anita and Coty Carroll, great
grandson, Rodney Stroud, great grandson, Jeffery Carroll, many other
relative and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday,
December 24, 2011 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony
Gilbert officiating. Music will be provided by Pappy’s Girls.
Pallbearers will be Rex Dockery, Tony Gilbert, Teddy Gilbert, Chad
Anderson, Coty Carroll and Dwight Anderson. Interment will follow in
Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday
and Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.

Ernie “Tinkerman” Foster, Jr., 85, of Panama City,
Florida passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Foster, a resident of Panama
City for 43 years, was born the son of Ernest F. Foster, Sr. and Ora
Jean Reece on January 7, 1926 in Blairsville, Georgia.
He was a man of great integrity and
proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for over 30
years.
After his retirement, Ernie loved to
tinker with cars, appliances and rental properties.
He and his wife, June, enjoyed a
special mission for passing out the Bible to folks in five foreign
countries.
Ernie was a very active member of
Cedar Grove Baptist Church and helped with the church’s tape ministry
and by driving the church bus for Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his
parents, his son, Dave Grant, daughter, Terri Lynn Utech, daughter,
Darlene Christman, granddaughter, Gentry Grant.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his
wife, Willa June Foster, daughter, Brenda Kay Gaff (James) of Panama
City, Florida, son, Kenny Foster of Montgomery, Alabama, daughter,
Elisabeth Carol Foster of Mobile, Alabama, son, John Foster (Sherry) of
Panama City, Florida, and daughter, Tory Pugh (Eric) also of Montgomery,
Alabama.
Ernie is also survived by his
brother, Marion Foster, and sisters, Margie Sparks and Sue Sparks, all
of Blairsville, Georgia, 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren
including beloved great-grandsons who lived with Ernie and June, 7
great-great grandchildren and his beloved pet, Jodi.
Funeral services will be held 2:00
P.M. Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel
with Pastors Richard Wright and Charles Key officiating.
Interment will follow at Evergreen
Memorial Gardens.
Military honors will be provided by
the Tyndall Air Force Base Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from
5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, December 23, 2011.

Mrs. Mary Caroline Payne, age 50, of Clark RD, Clermont,
GA, passed away Friday, December 23, 2011, at North East Georgia Medical
Center in Gainesville following a brief illness. Mary was born September
25, 1961 in Cumming, GA daughter of the late Joseph and Margie Goode
Shirley. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harley Payne, SR of
Clermont, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Harley and Kimberly Payne, Jr. of
Clermont, GA, brothers, Mack Shirley of Clermont, GA, Hugh Shirley of
Clermont, GA, Grover and Melissa Shirley of Cumming, GA, aunt, Jannell
Motors of Cumming, GA, cousin, Jacky Simmons of Gainesville, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday,
December 27, 2011 at Mountain View Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Potts and
Rev. Kenny Beavers officiating. Interment will follow in New Harmony
Baptist Church Cemetery.

Monday Dec. 26, from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m.

Mrs. Thelma “Ruth” Cheek, age 64, of Arkaqua RD,
Blairsville, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011, at North East
Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness. Ruth was born
January 27, 1947 in Union County, daughter of the late Grover Alfred and
Annie Laura (Lee) Jones. Ruth worked as a receptionist at North Georgia
News. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Horace Cheek of
Blairsville, mother, Lorene Henson of Blairsville, 8 sisters, Elizabeth
and Kenneth West of Blairsville, Glynda Tanner of Blairsville, Faye and
Bryson Thomas of Morganton, Dianne Allen of Blairsville, Brenda and Don
Baker of Ellijay, Linda Jones of Morganton, Sandra and Julio Lozano of
Morganton, Sarah Jones of Morganton, 2 brothers, Alfred and Sandy Jones
of Blairsville, Blake and Nora lee Jones of Blairsville, several nieces
and nephews and great nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Shirley and
Edward Mashburn of Blairsville, brothers-in-law, William and Nedra Cheek
of Blairsville, Herman and Lavada Cheek of Blairsville and Jerry and
Susie Cheek of Blairsville.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday,
December 27, 2001 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Waymon
Lovell officiating. Music will be by Evan Hughes. Pallbearers will be
Kevin Cheek, Gary Cheek, James Cheek, Dell Tanner, Eddie Beaver and
Derrick Tanner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alfred Jones and Blake
Jones. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to the
American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends at the funeral
home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
