| Mrs. Brenda Ownbey age 60 of Nottely Lake Cottages Blairsville passed away on Friday
June 11, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following an extended
illness. Mrs. Ownbey was born on May 13, 1950 in Murphy, NC., the
daughter of the late Elijah H. Underwood and the late Inez Plott
Underwood. She was a lifelong resident of Union County and a 1968
graduate of Union County High School. Brenda loved basketball and played
several years in High School. She was voted Most Valuable Player of
1968.She was a loving wife, sister, aunt and was a friend to many. She
was preceded in death by a nephew, Monty Weaver in 1965.Mrs.Ownbey was a
member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. Surviving Mrs. Ownbey are her loving husband, Hubert Ownbey of Blairsville, three sisters and two brother in laws, Bernice Lawson of Blairsville, Carol and Tim Shelnutt of Athens, GA., Fran and Buddy Harper of Athens, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 14, 2010 at 2:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating. Special music will be presented by Rev. Hubert Legg and Rev. Bud King. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Steve Worley, Terry Worley, Harold Atkins, Charles Hemphill, Danny Hemphill and Charles Wright. Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests donations may be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in memory of Mrs. Ownbey. Mrs. Joyce Lou Miller
age 67 of Hamilton Rd. Blairsville passed away on Wednesday June 16,2010
in the N. E. GA. Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Miller
was born on Nov.5,1942 in Baltimore, MD., the daughter of the late
Luther Heathcote and the late Gloria Atkins Heathcote. She was a loving
wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Miller attended
Coosa United Methodist Church. Surviving Mrs. Miller are her loving husband of forty nine years, Warren Miller of Blairsville, two daughters and one son in law, Kelly and Robert Dimick of Blairsville, Kim Miller of Blairsville, two sons, David Miller of Airville, PA., Warren L. Miller of Blairsville, fifteen grandchildren, Joy Leopold-Crumbley and husband Jermaine, Sarah Miller, Cameron Leopold, Sean Rea, Warren Miller Jr., Kayce Rea, Joseph David Miller, Keaton Eitmiller, Jacob Patrick Miller, Joshua Orion Miller, Jeramiah Luther Miller, Jonah William Miller, Stephanie, Dimick, Mathew and Mark Dimick, three great grandchildren, Nevaeh and Skylar Leopold and Andrianna Crumbley, many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 19,2010 at 2:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Steve Midkiff officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Sean Rea, Joseph David Miller, Keaton Eitmiller, Kayce Rea, Mike Wiley and Jermaine Crumbly. Interment will follow in the Coosa United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. James (Better known as Jim) Thomas
Henderson age 83 of James Henderson Rd. Young Harris passed away on
Wednesday June 16,2010 in the Union General Hospital following a brief
illness. Mr. Henderson was born on March 24,1927 in Towns County, the
son of the late Howard Henderson and the late Lorey Jane Lee Henderson.
Jim loved to hunt fish and spending time with his grandchildren. He was
a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had
retired from the Union County Road Department. He was preceded in death
by two sons, Doug and Charles Henderson and by two brothers, Burl and
Robert Henderson. Mr. Henderson was a member of Many Forks Baptist
Church. Surviving Mr. Henderson are two sons and one daughter in law, Sammy Henderson of Young Harris, Darrel and Mary Henderson of Brasstown NC., three brothers and one sister in law, Bass Henderson of Young Harris, George Henderson of Young Harris, Loyd and Bernice Henderson of Young Harris, daughter in law, Brenda Henderson of Blairsville, four grandchildren, Eric Henderson of Young Harris, Dustin and Tosha Henderson of Suches, Vanessa and Dwight Long of Franklin, NC., Haley Henderson of Brasstown, four great grandchildren, Colton, Rilee, Angyll and Summer, many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 18,2010 at 2:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. R. L. Martin, Rev. Harley Hunter and Rev. Farrell Presley officiating. Special music will be presented by L. D. and the Happy Pilgrims. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Tony Henderson, Scott and Junior Lockaby, Greg, Dustin and Eric Henderson and Ernest Chastain. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be George Bass, Loyd Henderson, Roy Henderson and Eddie Tanner, J. M. Grizzle, James Lee and Ed McClure. Interment will follow in the Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-9pm. Mr.William Lewis Pat Hallford age 88 of Barron Drive,
Clarksville, GA. passed away on Thursday June 17,2010 peacefully at his
home following an extended illness. Mr. Hallford was born on Nov.5,1921
in Habersham County, GA. the son of the late Harley Hallford and the
late Robie Roberts Hallford. Mr. Hallford
was a Graduate of Piedmont College,
Demorest, GA. (Athletic Scholarship). Spring 1942:Signed contract with
the NY Yankees Baseball organization. Played shortstop for Amsterdam, NY
Canadian American League. Sept 42 to June 46:Enlisted and served in
U.S. Army. Taught Judo and Hand to Hand combat at Ft. Benning and was in
the United States and European Theater. Was commanding officer L
company, 311th Infantry Combat Team at time of separation.
Summer 1946: Played baseball in Yankee Organization at Augusta, GA
Sally League, Binghamton Eastern League and Newark International
League, backing up Phil Rizuto as shortstop. 1947- 50: Was football ,
basketball and baseball coach at Clarkesville High School (2 years),
Glenville High School (1 year), and South Georgia College (1 year).
1951: Joined United Merchants and Manufacturers at the Clarkesville
Plant as personnel manager. Sent to Aragon, Ga. plant in 1953. Mar.
1958: Sent to Tehran, Iran to start up and operate a 40,000 spindle
1284 loom textile plant for the Iranian government. Remained in Tehran
until 1966. During his 8 years there he and his family traveled
extensively all over the world. 1966 : Returned to Greenville,
S.C. UM&M manufacturing division. 1967 to May 1973: Vice President
and General Mngr of Associated Textiles of Canada, Louiseville, Quebec,
Canada. 1973 to 1978: Sr. V. P. And Gen Mngr. of the Fabric Production
Div., UM&M, Greenville, SC. 1978: Owner and CEO of Amtex Mill,
Greenwood, SC. Pat was Pres. of Toastmasters in Tehran, Iran, Pres. of
the School Board, Tehran American School ,Member of Clarkesville United
Methodist Church, Lions Club, Clarkesville, GA., a Davitte Masonic Lodge
member in Aragon, GA., receiving his fifty year pin. Surviving Mr. Hallford is the love of his life, his wife, Gladys Southerland Hallford of Demorest, Ga. On May 9th 2010 they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in- law, Joan and L. Jan Abernathy of Canton, GA., Ann and Kegham Markarian of Nipomo, CA., one sister, Ruthie Franklin of Mt. Airy, GA., three grandchildren, Daniel Abernathy, Michael Panichi and Lisa Panichi,five great grandchildren, Ashley, Stephen, Kylie, Lindsey and Chloe, several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends also survive. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday June 24,2010 from 2-4pm at Piedmont College/Demorest Campus Stewart Hall (Follow the Special Event Signs).
